Honing

Honing is a finishing process that permits internal cylindrical surfaces to be formed to precise dimensions and fine finishes. Because stock removal is typically in the 0.001" range or less, the stress and heat levels are minimal, virtually eliminating distortion (washouts, crowns, banana shapes, & bellmouthing) and improving geometry. Schmiede Corporation has 5 dedicated honing machines to handle all honing operations.
