CNC MACHINIST EXPERIENCED                                                                             

Eligible applicants must have at least 10 years of CNC machinist experience and operating 5-axis machines .

 

Position Summary: Sets up and operates numerical control machines or machining centers to perform various functions, such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic pieces, utilizing knowledge of machine tool capabilities, machinability of materials, and shop math.

 

Essential Functions

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
  • Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work piece of machine.
  • Selects and installs cutting tools in machine spindle.
  • Loads control media, such as tape, card, or disk, in machine controller or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from data base.
  • Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors, such as cutting depth, speed, feed and coolant flow.
  • Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Stops machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Operates machine manually to perform nonautomated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
  • Discusses control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
  • Communicates with supervisor and leadman to receive instructions and coordinate activities with coworkers.
  • Inspects and measures parts to maintain quality, including statistical process control charts when required.
  • Complies with established policy, safety standards, and quality procedures to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements

Training and Experience:

  • High school or equivalent and between 2 and 4 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship or a combination thereof.
  • Minimum of 10 years of CNC Machinist experience required.
  • Experience operating 5-axis machines.

 

Physical Demands:  The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to the floor
  • exert at a minimum 50 pounds of force occasionally
  • lift up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • weight, force or shape of object may require the use of overhead crane or lifting assist

 

Working Conditions: The employee is subject to an industrial worksite including but not limited to:

  • noise from operating machines
  • moving equipment or moving machine parts
  • objects that may have sharp edges or burrs
  • machine shop related chemicals that may require restricted handling and proper use of PPE

 

CNC GRINDING MACHINIST EXPERIANCED                                                            

Eligible applicants must have at least 10 years of CNC grinding machinist experience.

 

Position Summary: Sets up and operates variety of grinding machines, such as external, internal, and form CNC grinders to grind metal pieces, such as machine parts, dies, or tools according to knowledge of grinding procedures.

 

Essential Functions

  • Studies blueprint or layout on work piece to visualize grinding to be done and plans sequence of operations.
  • Selects grinding wheel, applying knowledge of abrasives and metal properties and secures it on spindle, using wrench. Dresses wheel with dressing device.
  • Selects feed rates, grinding speeds, depth of cuts, and grinding wheel of size, shape, and grade for each operation, applying knowledge of metal properties, abrasives, product specifications, and shop mathematics.
  • Writes CNC program of machine instructions to regulate the movement of grinder along grinding path.
  • Moves controls to set-up wheel position and work piece in relation to each other.
  • Starts machine and engages CNC programs.
  • Operate the Birchwood Casey Black Oxide System.
  • Revises CNC program to eliminate instruction errors.
  • Observes operation and adjusts position and action of wheel and work piece.
  • Verifies dimensions of ground work pieces for conformance of specifications, using measuring instruments, such as templates, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauge blocks. Works to tolerances of plus or minus 0.0001 inch.
  • Dresses grinding wheels to complex profiles using special fixtures and tools.
  • Sets up machine for first article when required.
  • Communicates with supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
  • Inspects and measures parts to maintain quality including statistical process control charts when required.
  • Complies with established policy, safety standards, and quality procedures to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.

ESTIMATOR/PROJECT ENGINEER                                                                             

Position Summary: Estimates RFQs, leads, and advises supervisors and machinists on special projects.

Essential Functions

  • Estimates time, methods, purchased items, etc. to complete RFQs.
  • Prepares documentation and records of completed estimates.
  • Plans and documents manufacturing machining methods, sequences, quality requirements, and tooling requirements in accordance to quality procedures and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate shop manufacturing plans with Engineering, Quality Control, Production Control, and Shop Supervision.
  • Interrelate and consult with customers to prevent or solve problems.
  • Implement and correlate work being processed outside of Schmiede Corporation in accordance to quality procedures and customer requirements.
  • Complies with established policy, safety standards, and quality procedures to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements

Training and Experience:

  • High school degree or equivalent and between 4 and 10 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, apprenticeship, or college degree.
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Proficient reading and understanding part prints, geometric, dimensions and tolerances
  • Detail oriented
  • High organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Aerospace experience preferred

  • stand, walk, push, reach overhead, bend to the floor, and long periods of sitting,
  • exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • lift up to 30 pounds occasionally

PRODUCTION SCHEDULER / EXPEDITOR                                                                          

Position Summary: Monitors production of parts across all departments to ensure timely delivery.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates with Production/Engineering Scheduler to generate overall and part specific production schedules.
  • Works with department supervisors and to ensure schedule is followed throughout production life cycle.
  • Coordinates each work sequence and operation to obtain an efficient workflow for fabrication, assembly, installation and other manufacturing processes.
  • Compiles and maintains status information to expedite movement of material and parts between production areas according to predetermined productions schedules and order priorities.
  • Responsible for evaluating the progress of projects and prepare regular updates.
  • Identifies potential and actual schedule slip and coordinates with all department supervisors, management and production scheduler to offer recovery plans.
  • Implements recovery plans in conjunction with department supervisors and expedites these projects to minimize schedule slip.
  • Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to production schedule.
  • Evaluates and recommends additional or alternate methods or equipment to meet requirements of order.
  • Identifies and offers methods to gain efficiency on repeat orders based on prior production knowledge.
  • Responsible for making sure data is entered correctly into the computer system.
  • Communicates all available information to the Production Scheduler and Production Control Coordinator.
  • Complies with established policies, safety standards and quality procedures to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.

  • College Degree with at least 4 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship.
  • Proficient computer skills
